Thymus
mastichina, thymus capitalis, origanum majorana, majorana
hortensis and origanum vulgare.
Tender, bushy perennial herb, with woolly, up to about
0,5 mtrs. high, native to the Mediterranean region. Part
used is the dried flowering herb from which sweet marjoram
oil is obtained by steam distillation. Major producers
countries are Spain, France, Bulgaria, Tunisia and Marocco.
Spanish Wild Marjoram Oil is water and steam distilled
from the flowering herb of Thymus Masticina. The plant
grows wild in Spain and is distilled locally. Spanish
marjoram oil is an orange amber to pale orange yellow
liquid of strong, fresh, slightly sweet spicy, aromatic,
but predominantly eucalyptus like, camphoraceous odor.
Spanish Wild Marjoram Oil can hardly expect to find much
application in perfumery. Its effects and constitution
do not offer any particular value to recommend it to the
perfumer.
